Musical trip to the 15th Century in the Nassau Chapel

KBR

In the exceptional setting of the Nassau Chapel, surrounded by the manuscripts and artworks of the KBR museum, let yourself be carried away by the lute and voice of the ensemble. You, music, gothic vaults and some history: that’s all you need.

Michaela Riener (soprano) and Floris De Rycker (lute) are the pillars of the internationally renowned ensemble Ratas del viejo Mundo. The “rats of the old world” attach as much importance to the scores of famous composers as they do to popular music. The ensemble performs to sold-out crowds at major art festivals and their recordings are acclaimed all over the world.

Especially for the Nassau Chapel, Michaela Riener and Floris De Rycker present a very varied program based on unknown lute tablatures, folk music and polyphony from the early Renaissance, a time when our regions set the tone all over the world also musically.

This activity is supported by Alamire Foundation.

Please note that participants in the 6:00 pm concert visit the museum after the concert, from  7:00 pm onwards. Participants in the 7 pm concert are invited to visit the museum before the concert from 6 pm onwards!

About the exhibition

Explore the 15th century in our region through the images, stories and characters from the Library of the Dukes of Burgundy.

Six centuries ago, Brussels belonged to the rich and powerful Dukes of Burgundy. Skilled politicians and cultured patrons, they established a stirring treasure, a unique and fascinating collection of manuscripts: the Library of the Dukes of Burgundy.

These masterpieces, which have survived the ravages of time and of history, have been looked after for you by KBR. It is now opening its vaults to share the highlights of this fantastic collection via its new museum: a unique place that offers you the opportunity to share in Europe’s medieval cultural past, and admire beautiful illuminated manuscripts. The sixteenth-century Chapel of Nassau and the various rooms that surround it will form the backdrop to the museum.
